In the latest news on Asian Football, Buriram United wins in the first leg of the Asian Football Confederation Champions League, or the ACL, last Tuesday. Thai team Buriram United won 3-2 to South Korean Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. This is Jeonbuk’s first time to lose against a Thai club in the ACL- before this match was held, Jeonbuk had five wins and a draw against the Thai club.

Jeonbuk only had 14 players in Thailand for the match. Most of the players who competed in the K League match 1 last Saturday were all given time to rest. Led by Jeonbuk Coach Choi Kang-hee, the Jeonbuks also played the ACL match without their key defenders Kim Jin-soo and Kim-Min-jae. Both players are injured.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors are the reigning champions in the K League 1 in South Korea, but the success they have gotten in the national league has not been seen in the regional ACL. Jeonbuk gave up two goals to the Brazilian striker Edgar Silva of Buriram and lost a painful match in the knockout stage opener of the ACL that was held in the Buriram Stadium in Buriram, Thailand.

Jeonbuk needs to win a two-goal margin, at the least, to be able to qualify for the quarterfinals. They could also make it to the next round if they can manage to win with a 1-0 or a 2-1 score in any of their next matches. The next leg of the season will be held at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, next Tuesday.
