Last March 28 was an ordinary game- LeBron James put in 41 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists for the Cavs as they beat the Hornets 118-105. This game was a marked improvement over the game they lost over the Heat where the Cavs scored a measly 79 points.
But NBA history was (almost) made when LeBron James tied with NBA legend Michael Jordan’s record of 866 straight double-digit scoring games. The said double-digit score was hit in the second quarter, made with an alley-oop dunk made possible by J.R. Smith passing the ball.
LeBron James’ streak began on January 6, 2007. When we at 777iGame dug through the NBA players’ data, Jordan’s streak started in 1986 and ended in 2001. The 33-year-old player can surpass Jordan’s record this coming Friday when the Cavs will play against the Pelicans.
This doesn’t come as a surprise to us at 777iGame, and it is probably the same for sports fans everywhere, as LeBron James has always been compared to one the NBA’s greatest, Michael Jordan. The associate head coach of the Cavs, Larry Drew, said that it was a “phenomenal accomplishment, but there will be more records down the road that he will be breaking.” And if he does continue playing and delivering the same numbers as he has been for the past few years, we can look forward to seeing LeBron break and make new records.
James said: “Any time I’m in the same conversation with Mike and other great guys it lets me know I’m doing the right thing.” “To all my teammates over the 866 genes my coaches everybody- they’ve given me the opportunity to do that. It’s very humbling.” He adds.
But LeBron will tell you that records don’t motivate him. “My motivation is the love of the game,” he said. And we all have witnessed how his efforts have contributed to the success of the Cavs, the most recent one being this recent’s game bounce-back from their previous game, which was their season’s all-time low in terms of scoring.
The Cavaliers are currently just one game ahead of the 76ers for the third place in the Eastern Conference.
And just in case you want to know more about how LeBron compares to Jordan, it is also exciting (for those who love LeBron) to know that LeBron’s most recent game was his 1,072nd regular-season game – Michael Jordan played in 1,072 regular season games in his 15 season career.
