What’s in Store for The Utah Jazz?

After losing Gordon Hayward to free agency, the bulk of the pressure to get the team moving was passed on to Gobert. After losing Gordon Hayward to free agency, the bulk of the pressure to get the team moving was passed on to Gobert. The 25-year-old Frenchman is not a high-profile star; neither is he one of the top-rank players. He does, after all, need a little more fine-tuning on his offense, but he has enough skill to affect the outcome of a game.

But is it enough to make the Jazz shine? We at 777iGame did notice that he was neutralized by James Harden and Chris Paul in their game against the Rockets. But with the help of Donovan Mitchell, who seems to be replacing Hayward as the go-to guy in court along with Gobert.  Utah Jazz’s general manager has this to say: “After the last offseason, there was a little bit of uncertainty, Rudy was the most certain of all of us members of the Jazz, and he’s been proven to be right. And obviously, Mitchell is really good. I think in the coming years — not just next year but the coming years — you’ll see a team that can compete at the highest level.”

The situation the Jazz are in now reminds us at 777iGame of a couple of years ago when the Thunder lost Kevin Durant. Of course, Hayward is no Durant, but he was right in the middle of the team’s key strategy, and Hayward leaving forced the Jazz to lose its footing from the upper tier down to the middle. But we at 777iGame do see the possibility of getting back up to the higher tier – assuming the trifecta of building up Gobert, the strategy of their coach, and developing their amazing draft Mitchell will work successfully.

Going against the Thunder was definitely one of the best highs of the season. The Jazz showed solid teamwork, amazing defense from Gobert, Ricky Rubio’s floor work, and their very promising rookie Mitchell. But what ground they gained, they lost against their series with the Rockets, proving that their new structure still needs some work.

But hope is very visible in the team, you can see the changes of the Jazz on a physical level. Their arena is shiny, their locker room, well, jazzed up. Concourses and fan amenities are improved on. The Jazz’s practice facilities, their medical and training equipment are all upgraded – staff is overhauled as well. With the investment in infrastructure and the focus on strategy and player development, we at 777iGame can tell that they are moving towards a high-level team again. With their belief that their line-up of young talent, their coach, plus all the improvements being done, the Jazz are making it hard for players to leave them. They are also focusing on Gobert as someone any player would want to play with- selfless, team-oriented, a good setter, and someone you can rely on to put back any misses.

Another prime example of the Jazz’s strategy is forward, Joe Ingles. The Jazz’s strategy is to get these players from the margins, put the effort into helping them improve their game, find their place in the team, and be successful doing it. You could also say that this strategy is something we at 777iGame have already seen working for their rookie Donovan Mitchell.  There is also the question of retaining Derrick Favors and Dante Exum.

“We have a defensive base to start from and several good players under contract, a few players who are free agents that we hope to retain,” Manager Dennis Lindsey said. “I think we’re well-positioned for the next few years. We could have a little bit of flexibility going into this offseason, but more likely, the group deserves another shot to improve.” And in the Western Conference, they continue to straddle the line, at least until their efforts pay off.
